About the Division
The Human Rights Division at the University of Basrah for Oil and Gas seeks to enhance awareness of human rights culture and establish human principles that ensure justice, equality, and respect for human dignity. The division works to organize seminars, workshops, and awareness programs, provide consultations, and promote adherence to human rights principles and standards in both academic and community environments.
The division aspires to be a leading academic and community reference in spreading human rights culture and promoting its practices, contributing to building a fair and inclusive university environment based on respect for individual rights, preserving their dignity, and entrenching the values of justice, equality, and the rule of law.
Furthermore, the division works to establish human rights concepts within and outside the university through education, awareness, training, and scientific research, fostering a culture of mutual respect, tolerance, and social responsibility, and contributing to preparing an academic environment that supports rights and freedoms, consistent with national principles and international human rights standards.
Division Tasks
- Education and Awareness: Preparing and organizing lectures, seminars, and educational programs aimed at spreading human rights culture and introducing its principles and protection mechanisms.
- Monitoring and Documentation: Tracking and monitoring potential human rights violations within the university, documenting them, and submitting appropriate recommendations and proposals to the administration for necessary action.
- Partnerships and Cooperation: Building and strengthening cooperation with entities and institutions specialized in human rights at national and international levels, contributing to the exchange of expertise and the implementation of joint initiatives.
Activities
- Organizing training courses and scientific and awareness seminars in the field of human rights.
- Preparing and implementing specialized training programs on national and international legal mechanisms for protecting human rights.
- Preparing and issuing publications and awareness materials regarding basic rights for students, faculty members, and staff.
- Participating in national and international initiatives and campaigns aimed at promoting human rights culture and spreading its principles within and outside the university community.
